Week O Fun 3rd Edition: Wednesday

Wednesday was the baccalaureate Mass.  Julia won a few academic awards but she was most proud of top grade in Government class.  The running joke (at least in government class) is that it is actually harder than Advanced Government (which would not fit into Julia's schedule).  She put it in a frame for her party and added "advanced" on a sticky.  Only Maddie, who won the real Advanced Government top grade protested.  Julia graduated Cum Laude and had a NHS medal as well.

Here they all are.  They took the picture before the parents got out of Mass so I stole this off of Facebook and Julia with her eyes closed was the only option.

Side note:  There are 42 of them and 22 are 2nd generation!  They did not count 3rd generation but I know there are some of those too.

And of course, we got Tator Tot bake for lunch afterwards.  Always a hit in my book.

That night was the Fine Arts Awards banquet.  Julia cleaned up there.  The dad sitting next to me was making fun of me for how many pictures I had to take and about 3/4 of the way through I got tired of standing up to take them so I just stayed sitting!

The weird little stand up people are smaller...and more proportional so they are less creepy than in years past.  But I'm still hoping to get them out of my house quickly.  Julia got two, a choir and a band.

Band: John Philips Sousa Award

They are all for being an especially great senior.  Basically.

There's also various smaller awards in there from one act, district music and various speech things.  She lettered in all the things too.

She's very proud to have gotten the "Librarian" award for speech too.  She and Ben both got it for spending 76 hours in the library during speech practices.  It's a bookworm she named Christopher after the coach.  We have a picture but for some reason it won't cooperate.

Philip also got two band awards.

The Habanero group receive Outstanding Performance at District Music Contest (which gets Philip on the Music Wall of Fame).

He lettered in band and he got Outstanding Sophomore along with Aliza (not the cousin)! 

And of course, Julia with Jade, Maya and Trinity.

Great job in Fine Arts Julia- it really was your niche at Neumann.  And good job to Philip too!

Choir Concert

The choir this year sounded great.  This is our director's second year and you could tell everyone has learned a lot.

Julia was in all the high school choirs.  Which I guess is just two.

But they also did a mixed choir for the finale and each senior had a solo.

Dreaming in Disney

We were able to go see the show choir perform!

They seem to be enjoying their theme.  The men's and women's songs weren't ready yet because it's early in the competition season but we got to see the rest.

 There are only nine kids (one must have had to miss this day) but I think their vocals and choreography are comparatively equal to bigger choirs.

It was fun to get to see them!

Julia sang in the Choral choir...is that what it's called?  Julia's not sure either.  We're going with that.

They sounded great as always.

The show choir performed a couple of their songs too but I guess I didn't take a picture of that.  Oops.

Fall Vocal Concert

Julia sang in all her choirs.

This looks like High school combined with Junior high.

The Madrigals or is their name the Chorale Singers now?  I think so.

Swing choir.  They are pretty happy with the "Dreaming in Disney" theme Julia and Trinity picked.  They are the only two seniors and it's tradition that seniors pick the theme.

She has a solo but I haven't seen the show enough times to remember what song it's in.

All State Workshop

Julia went to an All State choir workshop.  They spent two days working on the audition music for all state.  It was free and gave her some experience signing with a big group, plus the pointers and tips from the director.  They performed and since it's summer and I'm not very busy, I went!  I can't usually make it to honor choir performances she's in because they tend to be weekday evenings.

She enjoyed it and met some nice people too.  : )
 

Fine Arts Banquet

Covid did not kill the food part of the Fine Arts banquet!  We still get to eat...and at my table, drink.  My friend Karen doesn't always follow the rules...well, this was more of a ask forgiveness (if you get caught) not permission situation and we didn't get caught.  :)

She also got the "super special you're the best in your grade band kid award" for the third year running.  It has a real name but I don't remember it.

Philip also got a certificate of participation in band (it generally takes two years to letter)...where did his picture go?  Not sure. And since google thinks I should upload ALL the pictures on my phone in order to have them in google pics to put on my blog, which then fills my free google drive and tells me I need to buy more storage, which I will not be doing- finding and adding that picture is a process.  Just imagine the picture with Julia and Mr. Kellett above  with Philip's back in it instead.

She loved being in the choirs this year and loves being a soprano, which is beyond this alto mom.

Performances

Julia had a great time in speech this year.  She preformed a serious prose and an OID (oral interpretation of drama.)  She likes the dark stuff.  I went a couple times and it was good, but I didn't really want to see either speeches over and over.  Sorry Julia but great work! 

Philip performed in a brass ensemble for district music contest.  They got a 1!

Julia performed a flute solo that got a 1 (She played a song I played once upon a time- Tambourin), the flute section performed a piece that received a 1 as well.  Julia and her long time flutie friend Isabelle performed a duet that got a 1 and a honorable mention.  That means they get a picture on Neumann's Fine Arts Wall of fame.  Nice job girls!

Julia sang too!  A duet that got a 2 and a quartet that got a "stupid, stinkin' 3".  She's spoiled with all the 1s she's gotten in her life.  My band once got a 4, she'll survive.  I did in fact take pictures at the recital night but I took them with the little button while I was video taping and now the computer thinks they are all movies so use your imagination!!

The new football coach had his meet and greet during the recital.  (Brother of my least favorite coach to date- and I've experienced 6 football coaches over eight years.  I'm trying not to hold it against the new Pavlik.) We found out via Facebook by chance the day before.  The recital had been planned for weeks and I was told about it directly.  We skipped the meet and greet.  Well, Philip went over after his performance.  And then Philip lost the papers that told us about summer schedules and expectations that he got there.  Ug.

 

Vocal Concert

We haven't been to a high school Christmas vocal concert since Samuel was a 7th grader.  It was nice!  It's my friend Amy's first year as the director so it's fun to see how things are going for her too.

First, Julia played flute to accompany one of the junior high songs.  You can barely see her over on the left in this picture.  

Then she sang with the Madrigals.  Show choir technically didn't perform but it's all the same kids as the Madrigals anyway.

It was a nice concert!
