Homecoming 2024

Homecoming has been an ongoing issue at Neumann since Covid.  (Insert eye roll here.  It was mostly parent drama.)  This year they put it back on the Saturday after the game and complaining seems to have simmered down.

Philip went with his buddies.  Well, Julia had him fill out the "outside date" form so one of their homeschool friends could get in but it was not a date in any other way.

They met at Abbott's for class pictures and food.

He said he had fun.

We went homecoming dress shopping but did not find anything Julia loved in the sea of glitter that was this year homecoming dresses.  But a some point we'd picked up this dress at a garage sale and Julia was really happy with it.  We bought some new jewelry to go with it and we were done.  She cleaned at the salon the day of Homecoming and Mary offered to do her hair, which was so sweet.

She looked beautiful.

Julia did have a date, Tony.

They were adorable.

She and Lucy were very happy about their pockets.

Since Tony's a senior and obviously Julia's a junior she didn't do the class picture thing.  Her class is 2/3 boys so she wasn't too excited about the class picture anyway (they did end up deciding to go for the free food though). The pics with her friends are what she wanted. (The girl in the green above is her friend Lucy, who was Philip's "date".)

Let's Try Again

So about a month after we got Larry and Jerry, we're pretty sure Jerry took an unauthorized ride to Wahoo under the hood of the van.  Unfortunately we haven't seen him since.

Larry was VERY lonely.  

Larry was so lonely he went on an adventure and disappeared too.

Then a few days later day I was scrolling FaceBook and saw this:

Philip, do you think that slightly angry cat is Larry?  Yep, me too.  

So we got him back.  

But he was still lonely.  (This sounds like a Eric Carle book.)

We had neighbors with some kittens left from a litter they didn't want to keep so we sent the kids over to get one.

Apparently there was a two for one special that day.

Meet Cheddar Ruffles (the long hair with Julia) and Ralph (short hair with Philip).

We're just growing them now I guess.

And Larry wasn't lonely any more.

Football, Football and more Football

Nicholas is playing for the Beef this year!  It's our midget tackle league.  We've let the boys play just in 6th grade if they wanted too.  Philip and Samuel both did and their teams were both league champions.  No pressure Nick.

He's number 20.

They have won all theirs games so far- shutting out each of their opponents to boot!

Playoffs start this weekend.

Freshman year football is a lot of standing around and watching a lot of games.  Philip has played on the line in a couple reserve games and even played a little in the JV game this week.  He went in on the edge at kickoff and the ball came right to him.  In the words of Sam, "If a Vrana gets the ball, something has gone terribly wrong for someone."  I asked Philip what he was thinking and he said "I don't know if I can catch this" but he did!!  And he ran it for a 25 yard gain, with all the Neumann fans laughing and cheering.  They know Vranas are not supposed to touch the ball.  We have a video but I don't bother to upload videos to my blog any more so it is available upon request.  :)  (I didn't take the video- line moms don't really bother to get their cameras out for kickoffs.  The mom of the boy who was supposed to catch it sent it to me!)

He is number 52.  Apparently I haven't take a picture of him in his uniform.  

He's enjoying being on the team and we know his time will come when he's an upperclassman.
