Family Vacation

After lots of weeks in total quarantine and more in mostly quarantine we decided a family vacation was in order.  Not just Jeremy and I and the kids, my parents and sisters and nephews too!

We stayed in cabins at the Broom Tree Family Camp.  We were the only ones there except the camp hosts, who worked during the day, a family that left soon after we arrived, a family who arrived just before we left and a few silent retreatants out walking.  So for all basic purposes we had the place to ourselves and could pretend there was no COVID for 4 days!  It was great!

There was fun out in the cabin yards,

inside the cabins (we celebrated everything we missed during quarantine),

swimming every day,

time at the playground,

a morning of paddle boating (the lucky people sat on the left, the right side was not actually helping paddle...which we didn't realize until late in the morning),

a walk on the double bridge was fun, it has a story walk, which I love!

and of course, smores!

It was a great get away!

New Project

Rocks in vinegar.  If there's sandstone in the rock, it bubbles!

FFA

Samuel found out he would be an FFA officer back in April.  Normally they have a big banquet in May and what office they got is announced there.  Of course that didn't happen so they've all been wondering for awhile.  Finally they were able to morph the banquet into Officer Installation and Senior Night.

Samuel is excited to be the treasurer, which seems like a logical choice for his office!  He is "stationed at the emblem of Washington" where he will "..keep a record....just as Washington kept his farm accounts carefully and accurately..."  I'm super amused by the FFA Opening Ceremony but I'm not really supposed to be, it's not supposed to be amusing.  Good thing I don't have to go to meetings and suppress my giggles.

Summer Cooks

Samuel made pork tacos and smores hand pies, Nicholas made a new favorite, crab rangoon pizza and later seafood casserole.  Thomas made chicken on waffles and I think he made the burger with beer cheese on it too.  Julia made sloppy joes and Philip made something we've forgotten but we didn't get a picture of either of those.  I love it when they cook and I don't!
